Maumelle Engagement Photos: Lake Willastein, Pinnacle Mountain & the River
Lakes, river meadows and mountain trails — the best engagement spots in and around Maumelle.
Maumelle doesn't get much attention as a photo destination, but it's surrounded by some of the best outdoor engagement spots in Central Arkansas. Lakes, river meadows and the trails around Pinnacle Mountain are all within about 15 minutes — perfect for couples who'd rather be outside than downtown.
Lake Willastein Park
Right in the middle of Maumelle, Lake Willastein Park is about 100 acres built around a lake, with a paved walking loop, fishing piers and a swinging bridge. It's easygoing and close to home, and the water gives soft, reflected light at the end of the day.
When to go: weekday evenings or early mornings. It's a popular neighborhood park, so weekend evenings mean more walkers and kids in the background.
Two Rivers Park
Just across the Arkansas River from Maumelle, Two Rivers Park sits where the Little Maumelle meets the Arkansas. It has open meadows, tree-lined paths and a pedestrian bridge — and it's one of my favorite places to photograph couples anywhere. You can see a full session I photographed there in Jace and Katie's engagement story.
When to go: the last hour before sunset, when the meadows turn gold. Spring and fall are especially pretty.
Pinnacle Mountain State Park
For a more rugged, outdoorsy session, Pinnacle Mountain is about 15 minutes from Maumelle. The base area has wooded trails and river views along the Little Maumelle, and the summit trails offer big views if you're up for a climb.
Tip: the summit trails are steep and rocky. Wear real shoes for the hike and bring your photo shoes in a bag — I'm happy to carry it. Most couples find the base trails and overlooks give plenty of variety without the climb.
Lake Maumelle
Lake Maumelle stretches west of Pinnacle Mountain and is one of the prettiest lakes in the area — wide open water framed by wooded hills. It's the region's drinking-water reservoir, so access and activities are more limited than at other lakes, but the shoreline views make a peaceful, simple backdrop at sunset.
Putting It Together
A Maumelle-area session usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half. A favorite plan: start at Pinnacle Mountain's base trails in the late afternoon, then finish at Two Rivers Park or Lake Willastein for sunset. Two outfits work nicely — one casual and outdoorsy, one a little dressier.
If you're planning a wedding too, my Maumelle wedding photography page covers where Maumelle couples tend to get married and how I approach the day. You can also see more sessions on my engagements page.
