Hot Springs Engagement Photo Spots: Bathhouse Row, Mountain Views & Lakes

Historic streets, mountain views and lake-country sunsets — where to take engagement photos in Hot Springs.

A bridal portrait at Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, Arkansas

Hot Springs is one of my favorite places in Arkansas to photograph couples. It has a little bit of everything — historic architecture, forested mountains, and lakes that glow at sunset — all within a few miles. Whether you're getting married in Hot Springs or just love the town, here's where I'd take your engagement photos.

Bathhouse Row and the Grand Promenade

Bathhouse Row is the heart of Hot Springs National Park: a line of grand early-1900s bathhouses along Central Avenue, with ornate facades, tile, and big arched windows. Right behind them, the Grand Promenade is a brick walkway lined with trees and old lamps, a little above the street.

Why I love it: it's timeless. The architecture gives you a classic, elegant look, and the Promenade lets us step away from the sidewalk traffic for quieter portraits.

When to go: early morning on a weekday is the calmest. Evenings are lovely too, but downtown gets busy on weekends, especially during the spring racing season.

Hot Springs Mountain Tower

For big, sweeping views over the Ouachita Mountains, head up Hot Springs Mountain. The tower and the overlooks along the mountain road give you a real sense of place — layers of ridgelines fading into the distance, especially pretty when the leaves turn in fall.

Tip: the scenic drive and overlooks are part of the national park, so this pairs easily with a Bathhouse Row stop in the same session.

Garvan Woodland Gardens

Garvan is a botanical garden on Lake Hamilton, home to the famous Anthony Chapel. It's gorgeous in every season — tulips and azaleas in spring, deep green in summer, color in fall, and lights during the holidays. I've photographed both a bridal session and a wedding at Anthony Chapel here.

Good to know: Garvan is a ticketed garden with its own rules for professional photography, so check their current portrait policy and fees before planning a session there.

Lake Ouachita and Lake Hamilton

If you want something more laid-back, the lakes are hard to beat. Lake Ouachita, just west of town, is big, clear and surrounded by national forest; Lake Hamilton wraps around the south side of Hot Springs. A sunset session by the water — or on a dock or boat if you have access to one — has a relaxed, summery feel.

Putting It Together

My favorite Hot Springs combination is Bathhouse Row in the morning for a classic look, or Bathhouse Row late afternoon followed by sunset at the lake. Plan for about an hour and a half if you want two locations and an outfit change.

Getting married here too? Take a look at my Hot Springs wedding photography page for venues, planning notes and how I cover the day.
